calls for congregations to distribute progress report on new liturgies
for blessing same sex couples
Oasis
California is urging congregation across the diocese to help distribute
an update on new liturgies for blessing same sex couples. The update
details how the Episcopal Church’s
Standing Commission on Liturgy and Music (SCLM) will respond to
Resolution C056, which calls for the commission to collect and develop
resources for blessing same-gender relationships.
“This report is an important step in welcoming
Episcopalians into an informed discussion of how our church should bless
same gender couples,” Oasis President Rev. Thomas C. Jackson said. “We
urge clergy across the diocese to print the SCLM flyer and distribute it
to their congregation.
"We applaud the Commission’s efforts welcoming
Episcopalians across America to this process,” he said.
Available for download
here in both
Spanish and
English, the report can also be posted on a congregation’s web site
(Spanish
and
English).
In accord with the resolution’s directive for the
commission to do its work in consultation with the House of Bishops, the
Chair of the SCLM, Deputy Ruth Meyers, and leaders of the task groups
for this project spoke at the recent House of Bishops meeting in
Phoenix. The bishops received copies of this leaflet and were invited to
distribute it in their dioceses.
To encourage discussion of its work on these
resources, the commission has
launched a blog. Questions and comments my also be directed to the
SCLM by
e-mail.
